Beyond the Classroom
ExtracurricularActivities and Clubs
Friends School after-school clubs program (pre-K through grade 8) provides age-appropriate enrichment activities and learning opportunities designed to encourage students to explore and develop new skills and share their talents and interests with the Friends community.
Experienced instructors—Friends School faculty and members of the local community—are committed to sharing their expertise in club topics, and to providing the best possible learning experience for each student. Clubs typically meet one day a week, Monday through Friday 3:30pm–4:30pm.
We are in the process of formulating a partnership with a local theater group to be provide weekly drama classes to our students ages 3 and up. Expect performances at the end of the year!
In addition to our fantastic music program, our preschool, elementary, and middle schoolers will have the opportunity to form a Friends School Chorus. It is our intent to share our talented singers with the community by performing in nursing homes and in our local children’s hospitals, as well as school wide performances.
Roots and Shoots
Elementary and Middle school students are encouraged to join this amazing youth service program. The mission of the program is to foster respect and compassion for all living things, to promote understanding of all cultures and beliefs and to inspire each individual to take action to make the world a better place for people, animals and the environment. Our students will work together to create a project that follows the above mission and then implement their project in our community. They can apply for mini grants to get their project off the ground, solicit local businesses, engage their family and friends all while learning how to make a real difference in our community.
Fine arts partnership
with Studio Works Art Gallery
All students will get to work with one of the visiting artists on a monthly basis. Studio Works boasts artists who work with various types of media, styles and materials. Our students will be introduced to printmaking, mixed media, weaving, pastels and more. In addition, our 5th and 6th grade students will have the opportunity to work side-by-side with a sculptor and learn the art of pottery. These students will create, glaze and fire their pieces in the Studio Works kiln.
UPCOMING Extracurricular ACTIVITIES
We are introducing some amazing new extracurricular classes over the coming years including Robotics, Computer Coding, Science Lab, Engineering, Soccer, Dance and more. Details will be sent soon.
